Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, Germany

Berlin's Brandenburg Gate is a neoclassical structure from the 18th century. Built on the location of a historic city gate that served as the beginning of the road from aBerlin to Brandenburg a der Havel, the former capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg, it is one of Germany's most recognizable sights. King Frederick William II of Prussia ordered the existing building to be constructed between 1788 and 1791 using plans created by Carl Gotthard Langhans, a royal architect. The sculptor Johann Gottfried Schadow created the bronze sculpture of the quadriga that adorns the gate.

The Brandenburg Gate is situated at the intersection of Unter den Linden and Ebertstraße in Mitte, in the western section of the city center. To the east, the gate dominates the Pariser Platz, and to the west, it opens onto the Platz des 18. März, which is followed by the Straße des 17.Although it is one of the earliest instances of Greek Revival architecture in Germany, the primary part of the gate is modeled after the Roman triumphal arch.Twelve fluted Doric columns, six on each side, support the gate and create five corridors. Additionally, there are walls with classicizing reliefs representing Hercules' labors between the front and rear pairs of columns.
