Krimml Falls, Austria

With a total elevation of 380 meters (1,247 feet), the Krimml Waterfalls are Austria's tallest waterfall.The falls are situated in the High Tauern National Park in the state of Salzburg, close to the settlement of Krimml, on the Krimmler Ache river.There are several levels to Krimmler Waterfalls. Starting at the summit of the Krimmler Ache valley, the waterfall descends in three sections. The lowest stage drops 140 meters (460 feet), the middle stage drops 100 meters (330 feet), and the top stage drops 140 meters (460 feet). The waterfall rises 1,470 meters (4,823 feet) above sea level at its tallest point.Seasons have a significant impact on the flow of the glacial Krimmler Ache. In February, its volumetric flow is only 0.14 cubic meters per second (37 USgal/s), whereas in June and July, it is 5.6 cubic meters per second (1,500 USgal/s). On August 25, 1987, the highest recorded flow was 166.7 cubic meters per second (44,000 USgal/s).

The Salzach, which runs to the Inn, the Danube River, and ultimately the Black Sea, joins the river after the falls.
